Buying A Shih Tzu Puppy

A Shih Tzu Guide

Buying a Shih Tzu puppy should be done with great caution because there are some unscrupulous breeders out there that are willing to sell you almost anything.

When buying a Shih Tzu puppy take your time and make sure you get lots of referrals from other people who own Shih Tzu.

Ask them where they got their Shih Tzu from and ask if they would get another one form the same breeder.

Just finding a breeder from a classified ad can lead to disaster.  Anyone can place a classified ad to sell Shih Tzu, but you should find one that had great references.

If you don't know any other Shih Tzu dog owners to ask, find if there is a Shih Tzu dog club in your area.  One way to do this is to call the American Kennel Club.  They often have a directory of dog clubs in your area.

If you are buying a Shih Tzu puppy from a pet store you need to be even more cautious.  Pet store puppies can often times be unhealthy can be the runt of the litters.

You don't know the history of these dogs, where they came from, or even if they are purebred Shih Tzu.

Shelters can be another place to find Shih Tzu to buy.  Often times the prices are much cheaper, the dog is already spayed and vaccinated, and they need a good home.

But be cautious when buying a Shih Tzu from a shelter because often times dogs are given up to shelters for behavioral problems.
