Shih Tzu Grooming Styles

 Different Shih Tzu Haircuts

There are a few different Shih Tzu grooming styles out there, but most of them are esitall the same.  Most groomers usually just normally use a clippers and shave the Shih Tzu to the same lenght all over.  While this is the easiest way, it does not alway give a good look.

When not showing my Shih Tzu I do just use clippers on most of the body to try and keep the mats and tangles at a minimum.  The mustache I leave a little bit longer though.

Other Shih Tzu grooming styles include the puppy cut.  The puppy cut is another style used by people when they are not currenlty showing their Shih Tzu.  You can read more about this cut here:

When grooming your Shih Tzu you want to make sure you a have a good quality pin brush, a blunt scissors, a hemostat, and a good conditioner.

I find it best to start grooming Shih Tzu when they are young so they get used to standing still or laying still.  If you don't train them for this grooming them can be a real nightmare.

Also when grooming them make sure they are on a grooming table and not a bed or the floor.  If you are more comfortable you'll do a better job and not rush so much.

The best time to groom them is after a bath.  After shampooing aplly a good conditioner to help remove any mats.  Once the coat is dry, you can easily groom them.

I've included a hemostat above in the equipment list because  it is needed to pull hair out of the ear canals which is needed in most Shih Tzu adults.
